It’s not tech that will solve climate change and the fossil fuel causes of it. People will. You, me, others. More people. Us.
Collectively we have huge agency and power to act. And we can do this.
Putting our energy, time, skills, care and, yes, money into the science-backed paths out of this rapidly growing crisis is not only necessary but it's so full of purpose and reward it's a no-brainer.
To do this with increasing speed and urgency we need to unlock, unleash and ignite the hope.
We're in this for the long haul and are delighted to have met so many like-minded and action-orientated humans from around the world. Together is always better.
We haven’t talked about ourselves much before - partly because up until a couple months ago the Zopeful team has been made up of…..well, just me (Adam 👋). This experience has shown me just how significant an impact individuals can have.
Zopeful began for me as a pandemic side project over 2 years ago, digging deep into climate-related stuff so I could connect the dots and piece together the full picture in order to understand how our individual choices could collectively make a meaningful difference.
When I started my own climate story, I experienced a lot of anxiety and confusion, mostly caused by the prevailing narratives of doom and disenablement (that are too often the one's that get the biggest reaction, while also draining away any sense of influence or control over events).
But through a deeper understanding of the climate crisis, I began to find motivation and practical changes I could make to contribute. And one thing led almost seamlessly to the next.
Instead of fear, I found hope and clarity in what I could do. I would like to help you find that too. And as many people as possible to discover that for themselves and join in combating the biggest challenge this century. It also happens to be an awe-inspiring opportunity to reimagine the world and our relationship to it.
Fast forward 2.5 years, we have launched 4 free online courses (we're working on more!) to support more people on their climate learning journeys, we introduced a carbon removal portfolio to help reduce and remove IRL emissions (+ grow this crucial new industry), and we have had people and companies from over 70 countries join our community!
Throughout this time, I have met so many ambitious, capable and passionate people from around the world, all driven to find ways to contribute towards science-backed climate action.
It's become increasingly clear that combating climate change is most definitely a highly collaborative, shared, endeavour that’s going to take a village (and many more)!
So, when I put out an invitation for like-minded people who want to make a difference to come join me to take Zopeful to new heights, I was blown away by the number of responses I got.
After the past few months of interviews, onboarding and planning, I’m so excited to announce that the Zopeful team now includes nearly 20 incredible contributors from all around the world, all driven to help to solve the climate crisis!
The team truly come from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences and countries - and I can’t wait to share more about them and their climate stories. They have a big thing in common: they all want to contribute to combat the climate crisis.
Having such an incredible group of humans jump in to support the Zopeful mission has left me feeling very humbled by all the positive energy and desire to contribute to something bigger than ourselves. To be a crucial part of a meaningful and lasting solution.
Our collective goal is to turn curiosity, anxiety, and positive intentions into meaningful, science-backed, action using the powerful combination of data, tech and words. All with trust and transparency ingrained into everything we do.
By inspiring and creating agency, we believe that we can enable hope and urgency that we all can contribute to being part of the achieving this audacious, incredible - and sometimes intimidating - goal of combating human-caused climate change.
We're here to show you how we can do this, and why doing it is highly desirable both for humans and everything else on the planet.
It's easy to think combating climate change is too hard, big, too systemic and complex or that nothing anyone does matters. Or that solutions we have to it are imperfect, too much of a compromise, too hard or expensive to grow to the size the science shows us we need.
That's simply not true.
For a huge chunk we know what and how to do it. From a financial perspective, for much of these solutions, in the long run they are not only cheaper than the alternatives, but much more desirable, equitable and sustainable.
For the rest, work is already underway around the world to figure it out (in almost all cases) and get it to a point where the solutions can be deployed and scaled up.
We're here to say that both individuals and companies have significant and critical roles to play in increasing the velocity of decarbonizing the world.
Even so, none of us can do this alone (believe me, I've tried!).
Unlocking our hope that we're all on our way to successfully achieving this feels like an essential piece of the puzzle, and there's no time like right now to do it!
